The San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ Land Use Committee on April 13 voted to forward a resolution renaming the 200 block of Stewart Street to Stewart Lane to honor William M. Stewart.
Abigail Rivamante Mesa, staff to Supervisor Haney, presented the proposal and told the committee the change affects only one address and complements nearby street and protected-bike-lane projects. Rivamante Mesa said the item passed the Port’s review unanimously on Dec. 10, 2019, and that letters of neighborhood support were in the packet.
Peter Gislow, general manager of Boulevard Restaurant and a member of the Embarcadero Stewart Street Hospitality Association, called in during the public-comment period to say his association — which includes several waterfront hotels and restaurants — supported the renaming and asked the developer to cooperate with local businesses as the area changes.
Chair Aaron Peskin moved to forward the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation. The committee recorded three ayes (Supervisors Preston, Safaie, and Peskin) and the motion passed. The item will be considered by the full Board at a subsequent meeting.
