Committee forwards Buzzworks liquor‑license transfer to full Board

Supervisor Rafael Mandelmann, chair of the San Francisco County Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee, moved March 12 to forward a resolution to the full Board recommending approval of a liquor‑license transfer for Buzzworks at 365 Eleventh Street.

Officer Salmons of the Alcohol Liaison Unit told the committee that the PCN for Buzzworks would allow a transfer to a type 40/48 on‑sale general public‑premises license and that Southern Station had no opposition. Salmons said there were no letters of protest and that there were letters of support; the location is in Plot 242 (described as a high‑crime area) and Census Tract 17802 (described as high saturation). ALU recommended approval of the transfer without imposing new conditions.

Owner and operator Vlad Cood told the committee he has operated venues in San Francisco for about 30 years and that the application would allow Buzzworks — which operates as a 21‑and‑up establishment — to add a line of craft spirits in addition to its current craft‑beer offerings. "The only thing that this new application will allow us to do is to add a line of craft spirits, in addition to our craft ... beer offerings," Cood said, adding that the venue's operations otherwise would not change.

After opening the item for public comment and hearing none, Chair Mandelmann said Supervisor Haney supports the application and moved to direct the clerk to prepare a resolution finding the transfer serves the public convenience and necessity and to forward it to the full Board with a positive recommendation. The motion was taken without objection.

Next steps: the clerk will prepare the resolution and the matter will be scheduled for consideration by the full Board.
