Committee votes to eliminate $50 legacy-business registry application fee
Summary
Supervisors voted to forward an ordinance to remove a $50 administrative fee for the Legacy Business Registry, saying the fee does not cover administrative costs and removing it reduces barriers for small businesses.
The Rules Committee on Sept. 12 approved and forwarded to the full Board an ordinance removing a $50 administrative application fee for the Legacy Business Registry.
Chair Peskin described the fee as "kind of a silly requirement" that does not adequately cover administrative time. Richard Carillo, Legacy Business Program Manager in OEWD’s Office of Small Business, told the committee the office supports eliminating the fee to reduce barriers for applicants and because the fee generates little revenue while requiring administrative processing.
Supervisor Mandelmann requested to be added as a co‑sponsor and was recorded as such. The committee voted to forward the item with a positive recommendation.
