Committee forwards ordinance tightening cannabis event-permit and retailer requirements

The Public Safety Committee heard and forwarded an ordinance Nov. 8 that would amend the Police Code to require event-permit applicants to identify retailers selling cannabis at permitted events, verify those retailers hold city-issued cannabis business permits, take steps to limit sales at events to the identified retailers, and make commitments supporting city equity goals as conditions of permit issuance.
Clerk John Carroll read the ordinance—s provisions, including administrative penalties for material false statements on permit applications and potential denial, suspension or revocation of cannabis business permits for violations. Chair Mandelmann said the committee had already amended the item at its Oct. 24 meeting and, after no public comment, moved to forward the ordinance to the full board with a positive recommendation, which was taken without objection.
