Board committee backs DOJ grant to launch Reentry SF to serve people returning from prison

Jessica Flintoft of APD described Reentry SF as a comprehensive reentry pathway for people on post‑release supervision and for individuals returning from county jails or state prisons under AB109. APD expects to serve roughly 195 participants in the program's first year. APD plans to subcontract roughly $622,000 of the award to four community partners to provide job training, transportation, transitional case management and mentorship, with the majority of funds supporting Goodwill and Walden House.
The budget analyst reported a multi‑year budget for the pilot that includes grant funds and additional general‑fund matching of roughly $788,605 (figures in the presentation were read for detail). APD proposed creating a half‑time reentry coordinator, grant‑funded and set to expire with the grant unless the board funds it later. After public comment and technical questions about transportation and training logistics, the committee moved the ordinance forward with recommendation.
