Committee forwards Aura liquor-license application for 1519 Polk to full Board

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee voted July 25 to forward a resolution recommending that the full Board of Supervisors approve a Type 42 on‑sale beer-and-wine liquor license for Nenovi LLC, doing business as Aura, at 1519 Polk Street in District 3.
Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, the committee chair, said Supervisor Aaron Peskin supports the application and moved that the clerk prepare a resolution finding the application meets the public convenience and necessity; the motion was taken without objection.
Attorney or ALU staff presented the Alcohol Liaison Unit report to the committee noting two letters of protest and one letter of support. The unit flagged the location as being within a high‑crime plot and a census tract designated as high saturation for alcohol outlets. The ALU recommended approval subject to three conditions: prohibition of off‑premises alcohol sales, active monitoring by the petitioner to prevent loitering adjacent to the licensed premises, and a requirement that no noise be audible at nearby residences.
The applicant, who identified herself as Sabrina of Nenovi LLC, told the committee she and her husband operate a tapas and wine bar in North Beach and intend to run Aura as a welcoming neighborhood restaurant. “All the conditions that we were given, we are totally fine with,” the applicant said, accepting the ABC conditions and describing intended weekday hours starting around 4 p.m. and weekend hours later into the night.
With the ALU conditions accepted and no public commenters appearing on the item, the committee directed the clerk to transmit a positive recommendation to the full Board for formal action. The matter will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda unless otherwise stated; the clerk noted items acted on by the committee are typically scheduled for the Board agenda on Sept. 3, 2019.
The committee took no final action to issue the license at the hearing; it forwarded the recommendation to the full Board for adoption or further review.
