Committee sends $100,000 Coulomb Technologies grant for multifamily EV charging outreach forward with recommendation

The Budget and Finance Committee recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve an ordinance authorizing the Department of the Environment to accept and expend $100,000 in grant funds from a demonstration program led by Coulomb Technologies, and to add one grant-funded position to the department.
Robert Hayden of the Department of the Environment said the funds are a subaward from a California Energy Commission grant administered by Coulomb Technologies to run a demonstration and outreach program aimed at helping apartment and condominium owners install electric-vehicle charging stations in multifamily buildings. Hayden said the outreach will draw on building-owner lists and industry groups to identify qualifying buildings and that the program complements existing city work installing chargers on public property.
Supervisors asked how the department would ensure outreach into western neighborhoods and other areas that may have fewer qualifying buildings; Hayden said staff will work with district offices and lists (apartment builders association, building owners association) to reach such areas. The item did not include a budget analyst report. A motion by Supervisor Mercury (moved) and seconded by Supervisor Kim carried without objection to send the item forward with recommendation.
