Committee approves insurance increase for Laguna Honda Hospital replacement program

The Budget and Finance Committee approved an amendment to the owner-controlled insurance program (OCIP) for the Laguna Honda Hospital Replacement Program, increasing the not-to-exceed amount from $15,279,662 to $17,323,400 to cover continued work on the H Wing remodel and adjusted workers' compensation payroll estimates.
John Thomas, project manager for the Laguna Honda Hospital Replacement Project in the Department of Public Works, said delays and more extensive roof work required extending coverage. "A significant section of the roof, over 60% of the roof structure has had to be removed all the way through the concrete and replaced," Thomas said, and the amendment extends OCIP coverage through December 31, 2012 to ensure continuous insurance for remaining work.
The budget analyst concurred with the requested increase and recommended a technical correction to the resolution text specifying the Sixth Amendment and the correct prior not-to-exceed amount; the committee accepted the technical amendment and approved the resolution as amended without objection.
Next steps: the amendment was approved and will extend insurance coverage through the remaining construction period for the H Wing remodel.
