Committee moves Broadway Entertainment Corridor Community Benefit District to full Board

The Government Audit & Oversight Committee on June 9 forwarded to the full Board a resolution of intent to form the Broadway Entertainment Corridor Community Benefit District (CBD). Lisa Pagan of the Office of Economic & Workforce Development said the steering committee submitted petitions showing 39.6% weighted property-owner support; the proposed district would cover 42 parcels, propose a 10-year term and a $205,852 annual assessment budget after adjustments for corrected parcel data.
Bob Davis, director of the Entertainment Commission, and representatives from property owners and club operators testified in favor, saying the CBD would provide coordinated security (nighttime officers), cleaning, beautification and collaboration with police and club security. Attorney John Espadol, representing BSC Management, said the steering committee performed outreach and expected improvements, while proponents argued the district would relieve some pressures on city resources.
The committee adopted the amendment of the whole and sent the item to the full Board with recommendation without objection.
