Project sponsors said the plaza was developed through multi‑year community outreach as part of the Western SoMa community plan and will include commemorative elements honoring the LGBT leather community.
Sponsor and community members said the plaza will fill a neighborhood open‑space need and that a nonprofit friends group will help program and manage events. The committee took the item without objection and will forward the encroachment permit to the full Board for final action.
