San Francisco's Government Audit and Oversight Committee on Monday continued consideration of an ordinance to amend Division 1 of the city's Transportation Code that would establish a procedure for the Board of Supervisors to review specified Municipal Transportation Agency decisions.
Chair Supervisor Aaron Peskin described the proposal as "a work in progress" and said he preferred not to hear the item at this meeting, moving it "to the call of the chair" for a future meeting. The committee agreed and continued the item without objection.
Douglas Yepp of San Francisco General Hospital urged the supervisors to adopt stronger oversight, saying he believes the Muni "spends plenty overall but too much of it is spent for the administrative costs," including salaries and benefits, and argued more oversight should justify shifting resources to frontline operations such as drivers, inspectors and equipment maintenance.
Because the committee continued the ordinance for later consideration, no formal amendments or votes on the ordinance were taken at the meeting. The item will return to the committee when the chair places it on a future agenda.
