Mission Bay Park 5 dedicated as Mission Bay Dog Park; committee forwards item to Board

The Land Use & Transportation Committee on March 19 recommended that the Board of Supervisors dedicate a portion of State Trust Parcel 2 in Mission Bay South as a public right-of-way and name the site Mission Bay Dog Park.
Supervisor Matt Haney described the long community interest in opening the fenced park on Channel Street and said residents are eager to begin use. A Public Works representative said the project was constructed according to Mission Bay Park plans, a notice of completion was issued and operations and maintenance will be funded through community facilities district funds managed by the Office of Community Infrastructure and Investment.
Project staff noted minor construction and plant-establishment tasks (including corrections to ADA slope ramps and a standard 90-day plant establishment period) delayed opening even after the site appeared finished to neighbors. Committee members asked why the park took to reach completion; project staff described developer documentation, agency reviews and several site corrections as contributing factors.
The committee voted without objection to send the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation so the park can open to neighborhood use.
