Committee advances Pier 70 street vacation for Parcel K North; public comment absent

Summary
The committee recommended an ordinance to vacate a 12‑foot strip of Michigan Street at Pier 70 to create a larger development parcel (Parcel K North) and to enable new sidewalks and street alignment; Port and project staff said proceeds from sale will fund entitlement costs. The item goes to the full board with a recommendation.
Committee Chair Katie Tang called Item 1 on Oct. 15 to consider an ordinance ordering a summary street vacation for portions of Michigan Street at Pier 70, authorizing associated property transfers and accepting a public‑works order.
Brad Benson, representing the Port director and the Pier 70 project team, explained that vacating a 12‑foot excess strip of Michigan Street would remove an overly wide street section, enlarge Parcel K North and allow creation of a new street and sidewalk. Benson said the Parcel K North site is one of the first parcels planned for sale for market‑rate housing and that proceeds would help pay entitlement costs for the larger Pier 70 project.
Benson outlined schedule targets: committee recommendation on Oct. 15; ordinance effective in December; board consideration of the Parcel K North transaction in January and a February closing. There was no public comment on the item, and the committee moved it forward to the full board with a positive recommendation.
Disposition: Motion to forward item 1 to the full board with recommendation was made and adopted without objection.
