Committee endorses Bay Area 'Diesel‑Free by '33' statement, sends resolution to board

The Land Use & Transportation Committee on Oct. 29 voted to send a resolution to the full Board endorsing the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s ‘‘Diesel‑Free by ’33’’ objective. Amy Beinart, representing Supervisor Ronan, said the resolution would join San Francisco with other cities and counties that have committed to cutting diesel use and black carbon because of public‑health and climate risks.
The resolution asks the Board to endorse the regionwide goal to reduce diesel emissions and recognizes the disproportionate impacts of diesel pollution in communities near major corridors. There was no public testimony on Item 2 and the committee agreed to forward the resolution with a positive recommendation.
What’s next: The resolution proceeds to the Board of Supervisors.
