Committee endorses ordinance to add Clerk and Human Rights director to COIT

The Rules Committee on July 26 voted to forward an ordinance that would amend the Administrative Code to add two permanent seats to the Committee on Information Technology (COIT): the Clerk of the Board and the Executive Director of the Human Rights Commission.
Board President Shamone Walton said the Clerk’s office and the Human Rights Commission provide operational oversight and an equity lens that COIT lacks in its current codification. Walton described COIT’s existing membership and explained that adding the two seats would help ensure day-to-day technology needs and public-engagement tools are properly represented.
Clerk of the Board Ms. Calvillo spoke in support, saying the office often receives department submissions and is frequently affected by legislation; she said formal COIT membership would enable the Clerk’s office to assist departments and weigh in on operational impacts. Supervisor Rafael Mandelmann asked to be added as a cosponsor. The committee voted unanimously to send the ordinance to the full board with a recommendation.
Next steps: The ordinance will be considered by the full Board of Supervisors.
