Subcommittee forwards $750,000 HUD grant to support Sunnydale revitalization under HOPE SF

The Budget & Finance Subcommittee voted to forward a resolution authorizing the Mayor—9s Office of Housing to accept a $750,000 Economic Development Initiative grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist Sunnydale—9s redevelopment.
Amy Tharp, director of the Mayor—9s Office of Housing, asked the committee to approve acceptance of the $750,000 grant, saying it will support the Sunnydale Revitalization Project, one of the active HOPE SF sites. "This grant would be for the Sunnydale Revitalization Project, which is 1 of the 5 active HOPE SF sites," Tharp said. She described Sunnydale as a public housing site that has been preparing for revitalization for three years, said the site currently comprises 785 units and is planned to be redeveloped to about 1,700 units with a 15,000-square-foot neighborhood-serving retail component and a 15,000-square-foot community services area. Tharp said the project had completed master planning and was working toward entitlements by summer 2012.
There was no public comment on the item. The committee moved and seconded a motion to accept the grant and forwarded the resolution to the Board of Supervisors without objection.
The item was advanced to the Board for formal acceptance and any additional approvals required for project entitlements and implementation.
