Committee recommends Gum Hua Lee liquor license to full board; Maya Angelou statue item continued

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee voted Jan. 24 to forward a Type 21 liquor-license application for Gum Hua Lee, a business at 915 Stockton Street, to the full Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation.
Officer Patrick Mackey of the San Francisco Police Department summarized the Police Code/PCN report and said the location is in a high-crime plot and a high-saturation census tract but that there were zero letters of protest and zero letters of support. He said Central Station raised no opposition and the Alcoholic Beverage Control unit approved the application with no recommended conditions. Supervisor Feuer moved to forward the item to the Board with a positive recommendation; the motion passed without objection.
On a separate procedural matter, the committee took up an ordinance directing the Arts Commission to erect a statue of Maya Angelou at the Main Library and to set a policy that at least 30 percent of nonfictional figures commemorated on city property be women. The sponsor asked to continue the item to the call of the chair to allow additional work and public input; the committee approved the continuation after opening and receiving no public comment.
The committee’s actions on both items were procedural referrals: the liquor-license recommendation will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda, and the arts ordinance will be returned to committee at the chair’s discretion for further consideration.
