Rules Committee forwards Julia Pochiknik's reappointment to Treasure Island board after amendment

The Rules Committee voted on May 24, 2021, to recommend approval of Mayor's nomination to reappoint Commissioner Julia Pochiknik to the Treasure Island Development Authority Board of Directors for a term ending Feb. 26, 2025.
Commissioner Julia Pochiknik told the committee she had "already served a short 3 month stint" on the board and described her two decades of work in energy and environmental fields. She said she has been "working with staff and with different groups to try and find solutions for the community members," including work on backup batteries and efforts to center equity and community justice as island development proceeds. "I'm really thrilled to be renominated," she said.
Supervisor Rafael Mandelman praised the emphasis on power and access, saying Treasure Island often is disproportionately affected by outages and noting ferry congestion and accessibility concerns. Clerk Victor Young recorded that there were no members of the public in line to speak on the item.
Chair Aaron Peskin said the committee had received a letter from NRDC questioning whether the city attorney should be the next general manager of the Public Utilities Commission. Peskin then moved to amend the subject motion by removing the words "rejecting" (line 3) and "reject" (line 8). The committee adopted that amendment by unanimous roll call.
Peskin then moved to send the motion as amended with a recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors. A roll-call vote recorded Mandelman, Chan and Peskin voting "aye;" the committee adopted the recommendation without objection and will forward the item to the Board for final action.
