Rules Committee fills seats on Sunshine Ordinance Task Force amid backlog concerns

On Jan. 25 the Rules Committee moved to appoint seven members to the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force and forwarded the slate to the full Board of Supervisors, while outlining administrative steps to address a backlog of complaints.
Chair Aaron Peskin and staff described an accumulation of more than 70 complaints, including roughly two dozen similar complaints related to Prop G calendars from a single filer, and said staffing shortages and COVID‑related delays have contributed to the backlog. Peskin discussed possible administrative changes including consolidating identical complaints and using subcommittees or facilitated dialogue to resolve matters more efficiently under Chapter 67 of the Administrative Code.
Several applicants and public commenters appeared; David Pilpel (applicant) and others urged transparent complaint handling and noted the tradeoffs of anonymous complaints versus anonymous public comment. Supervisors said the task force would benefit from diversity and praised returning members for institutional knowledge.
Chair Peskin moved a slate of appointments (Kevin Frazier, Ms. Stein, Matthew Yankee, Chris Hyland, Laurie Jones' neighbors, Kai Forsley, Bruce Wolf filling specified seats). The committee approved the appointments by roll call vote without objection and adjourned.
