Chair Katie Tang introduced an ordinance to amend planning and building codes so the zoning administrator could waive or modify bicycle-parking requirements for accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Public commenters expressed mixed views. Several neighborhood advocates urged more precise drafting and stronger notices: Georgia Schutisch warned that the term "proposed" should not be interpreted to allow demolition; Rose Hilson and Catherine Howard asked for mailed plans, stronger setback compliance for fill-ins, and tenant notification; others (including tenants and housing advocates) supported ADUs as a tool to increase housing and keep multi-generational families in the city.
Chair Tang acknowledged commenters' concerns, told the committee she had reviewed letters submitted to the clerk, and said she would reserve detailed comments until the item returns on July 9. A motion to continue was made and accepted without objection.
