Land Use Committee forwards resolution to rename short Mission Bay block 'Warriors Way'

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Land Use Committee on June 25 forwarded a resolution to the full Board that would rename the short block of South Street between Third Street and Terry A. Francois Boulevard in Mission Bay to "Warriors Way." The move was intended as a civic recognition of the Golden State Warriors and their contributions to the city and region.

Supervisor Jane Kim, a co-sponsor of the resolution, told the committee the selected block is a recently built, short street adjacent to the Chase Center and "a proposed street renaming is a special way to recognize and welcome the Warriors team to San Francisco in the Mission Bay neighborhood and to their ongoing and continued contributions to the city both on and off the court." She said the proposal had been presented to and is supported by UCSF, the Mission Bay Citizens Advisory Committee and the South Beach Rincon Mission Bay Neighborhood Association.

A Warriors representative, introduced as Mr. Kelly, said he was "happy to answer any questions" and expressed support for the outreach described by Supervisor Kim. Javier Rivera, project manager with public works, was present to answer process questions. Committee members asked no substantive objections and public comment was not raised for the item at the committee hearing.

Chair Katie Tang called for a motion; Supervisor Kim moved to send the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation, and the committee advanced the item without objection. The resolution will appear on the July 10 Board agenda for consideration by the full Board.
