Committee forwards Exit Theatre—s Type 64 theater liquor-license request to full Board

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee voted on Oct. 25 to forward a positive recommendation to the Board of Supervisors for Exit Theatre—s application for a Type 64 special on-sale general theater liquor license at 156 Eddy Street.

Sergeant George summarized the PCM report and outlined nine recommended conditions, including concession-stand-only alcohol sales, a ban on point-of-sale in the auditorium, a two-drink limit per transaction, a prohibition on off-sale alcohol, requirements for alcohol to be served in containers that noticeably differ from nonalcoholic beverage containers, a 16-ounce limit for beer containers, monitoring of auditorium activity at least every 30 minutes, a loitering prohibition on adjacent sidewalks/property, and a noise restriction so that no noise is audible at nearby residences. Sergeant George told the committee there were no ballot letters of protest or support and that the site is in Plot 176 (a high-crime area) and Census Tract 125.01 (a high-saturation area).

Richard Livingston, the managing director of Exit Theatre, spoke for the applicant and said the 35-year-old nonprofit currently operates under a Type 41 license for beer and wine and seeks to replace it with a Type 64 nonprofit theater license. "I'm Richard Livingston. I'm the managing director of Exit Theatre. It's a 35 year old nonprofit theater in San Francisco," he told the committee.

After the presentation, the committee opened public comment and, seeing none, closed it. A committee member identified in the transcript as "DIRECTOR" moved to send the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the motion passed without objection. The item is scheduled to appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on Oct. 31, 2017 for final consideration.
