Rules Committee forwards several advisory-board appointments to full Board
Summary
On Nov. 9, 2020 the San Francisco Rules Committee voted to forward nominations and reappointments for four advisory-board seats — on the Commission on Aging, Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee, and the Sugary Drink Distributor Tax Advisory Committee youth seat — to the full Board with positive recommendations, each passing without objection.
The Rules Committee of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Nov. 9, 2020 voted to forward multiple advisory-board nominations and reappointments to the full Board with positive recommendations.
Chair Supervisor Hillary Ronan moved to forward Patricia Spaniuk’s nomination to Seat 9 on the Commission on Aging (term ending March 31, 2021). Spaniuk told the committee she has served on the advisory council for several years and described her work with the Community Living Campaign, where she said staff deliver programs and services — including more than 200 online classes and regular check-in calls and food deliveries — to reduce isolation among seniors in San Francisco. The committee recorded aye votes and the motion passed without objection.
The committee also forwarded the reappointment of Steven Currier to the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee (term ending Feb. 1, 2022). Currier said he has served on the panel since March 2018 and described his enthusiasm for continuing in the role. The motion received unanimous support from committee members.
For the youth seat on the Sugary Drink Distributor Tax Advisory Committee (term ending Dec. 31, 2022), the committee heard a recommendation from Austin, staff to the Youth Commission, who said outreach expanded the applicant pool and recommended Kiana for her community outreach and leadership experience in District 10. Kiana (age 16) described her student organizing, fundraising and volunteer work and said she would focus on community outreach and input on the distribution of nutrition-program funds. Joy Jackson Morgan, executive director of Third Street Youth Center and Clinic and co-chair of the advisory body, spoke in support of Kiana. The committee forwarded the nomination with a positive recommendation.
All motions were adopted on roll call and, in each instance, the committee announced the motion passed without objection. The forwarded items will next be considered by the full Board of Supervisors.
