Land Use Committee approves minor electrical and plumbing code corrections

At the April 9 Land Use Committee meeting, the panel considered two routine ordinance items. Item 1 corrects the title of a low-voltage lighting section in the San Francisco electrical code; Cheryl Rose, acting chief electrical inspector at the Department of Building Inspection, said she had reviewed the proposal and had "absolutely no objections" because the change corrects an outdated title that had been carried forward from prior code cycles.
Item 2 amends the plumbing code to prohibit circuit venting except when approved as an alternative engineering design. Steve Panelli, the city’s chief plumbing inspector, described the amendment as routine: circuit venting had been allowed in limited circumstances, but because San Francisco’s installations include multiple venting systems and unique topographical conditions the change limits circuit venting to special circumstances and requires engineering approval.
Both items had no public comment and were moved forward with positive recommendations "without objection."
