San Francisco Public Works certifies $23 million in SB 1 street-resurfacing projects

San Francisco Public Works told the Board of Supervisors Land Use Committee on April 16 that it will certify a list of street-resurfacing projects to be funded with $23,000,000 in fiscal year 2018–19 from the state Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account created by Senate Bill 1.
Rachel Alonso, a Public Works representative, said the department identified six "various locations" projects covering roughly 220 residential blocks next fiscal year and that the RMRA allocation is one of several fund sources shown in the committee packet. Alonso said Public Works groups 25–45 residential blocks into a single construction contract for efficiency and noted maps in the packet showing treated and planned blocks since fiscal 2009–10.
Committee members asked how projects were prioritized; Alonso said the department uses pavement condition index scores, project readiness and coordination opportunities with other agencies. No members of the public requested to comment on the item, and Supervisor Safaie moved to send the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation accepting Public Works’ recommendations. The committee approved the motion without objection.
The item will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on April 24. The resolution is a local certification that must be transmitted with the RMRA-funded project list to comply with SB 1 transparency and accountability requirements.
