Public comment included endorsements from former and current advisory committee members, public-health researchers and YMCA leaders. Doctor Jonathan Butler, a current or former committee member, called in to support Vanessa Baum for seat 1. Union and nonprofit representatives urged appointments they said would ensure continuity, health equity and strong community representation.
After questioning and discussion about nominee seats with specific eligibility (for example, seats reserved for nominees from the school district’s parent advisory council and for medical-institution-employed experts), the Committee voted to forward a recommended slate of seven names to the full Board of Supervisors. The committee’s vote to forward recommendations was recorded as aye by members present, with Supervisor Rafael Mandelman excused from these items at committee.
The Rules Committee’s recommended slate will go to the full Board for confirmation. The hearing record shows extensive public-health and community experience among the nominees; the final confirmation vote will be held at the Board of Supervisors.
