Committee advances Good Eggs— alcohol-license transfer after presentation and public support

The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee voted 2-1 on July 12 to forward to the full Board the transfer of a Type 21 (off-sale general) alcoholic beverage license for Good Eggs Incorporated, doing business at 901 Rankin Street.

Bentley Hall, CEO of Good Eggs, told the committee the company delivers groceries, meal kits and, if approved, a curated selection of wine, beer and spirits. He said Good Eggs employs about "175 jobs currently" and sources roughly 80 percent of its products from local producers within a roughly 250-mile radius. Hall said the company requires customers to be home for delivery, checks valid ID at delivery, employs drivers over age 21 for alcohol deliveries and requires responsible-beverage-service training for staff. He said the applicant agreed to the Police Code/ALU recommended conditions, including alcohol sales between 6 a.m. and midnight and a prohibition on persons under 21 delivering alcohol.

During public comment Earl Shattucks, executive director of Economic Development on Third, said Good Eggs had done "extensive outreach and community engagement" in Bayview and had merchants' support. No letters of protest were reported in the PCN materials; staff noted the site sits in a plot described as low crime and in a census tract judged high saturation.

Supervisor Suhhee moved to send the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation. On a roll call, Member Feuer voted no; Vice Chair Sheehy and Chair Ronan voted yes. The clerk recorded the tally as two yes and one no, with Member Feuer dissenting. The item will appear on the Board agenda as noted by the clerk for July 18 unless otherwise changed.
