Supervisors praised Lai’s first seven months on the board and asked for her views on transit reopening and equity priorities. Lai described her priorities as advancing racial equity, Vision Zero, transit recovery, improving language access and contract management, and said her urban-planning background and community advocacy inform her approach.
Public commenters representing the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, community organizations and neighborhood groups voiced support, emphasizing Lai’s transit experience and ties to constituencies that rely on public transit. After public comment the committee voted to amend language in the motion (removing the word “reject” from the title/move clause) and then to forward the amended nomination to the full board. Roll-call votes on the motions were unanimous among Mandelmann, Chan and Chair Peskin.
The reappointment will be considered by the full board at its next meeting.
