The Government Audit and Oversight Committee forwarded two resolutions to the full Board recommending acceptance of federal New Starts capital assistance for the Third Street phase 2 portion of the Central Subway project.
Clerk Deborah Muccino read Item 3, authorizing the Municipal Transportation Agency to accept and expend $9,920,000 in Federal New Starts capital assistance for the Third Street phase 2 new central subway project, excluding administrative overhead, and Item 4, authorizing acceptance and expenditure of $24,502,500 in Federal Section 5309 New Starts capital assistance for the same phase, excluding administrative overhead.
"We're delighted to have 35 and a half million dollars of federal money to build a new subway in San Francisco," Supervisor Aaron Peskin said when introducing the items. Judson True of the Municipal Transportation Agency asked the committee to forward the items to the full board with a recommendation and noted that a budget analyst report was the only intervening new piece of information since the items were last heard.
The budget analyst recommended approval, and, after no public comment, the committee directed that both items be forwarded to the full Board with recommendation. The full Board will consider formal acceptance and any required financial or administrative steps.
