Committee backs renaming 1600 block of Galvez Avenue to Sam Jordan’s Way

The Land Use Committee voted to send a resolution to the full Board recommending renaming the 1600 block of Galvez Avenue to "Sam Jordan’s Way." Britney Chiquata of Supervisor Malia Cohen’s office told the committee that outreach by Public Works found no negative responses from businesses and that neighbors expressed enthusiastic support for the change.
Alan Jordan, son of Sam Jordan, thanked the committee and said the renaming was a source of pride for his family and the Bayview Hunters Point community. Supervisor Shane Kim said he supported the ordinance and asked to add his name to it; the motion moved forward without objection.
The measure will appear on the April 3 Board of Supervisors agenda with the committee’s recommendation.
