Supervisors amend and forward $16.1 million Institute on Aging grant for case management and community living services

The Budget & Finance Committee on Wednesday amended and forwarded a resolution authorizing a grant agreement between the City and County of San Francisco and the nonprofit Institute on Aging for case management, community living fund and linkages services for seniors and adults with disabilities.
Chair Supervisor John Avalos introduced an amendment increasing the total authorized amount to $16,144,866 from the previously stated $13,191,544. David Flores Jr., senior administrative analyst for the Human Services Agency, told the committee the grant term would run July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2015, and that the program aims to prevent premature or inappropriate institutionalization through intensive case management, care planning, monitoring and purchase-of-service supports.
Budget analyst Mr. Rose recommended approving the amended contracts with retroactive authorization to the July 1 start date consistent with the RFP process. Supervisor Sophie Maxwell moved approval, and the committee accepted the motion and forwarded the item to the full Board without objection.
The resolution as amended directs the Human Services Agency to execute the grant agreement with Institute on Aging to provide the specified services to frail elders and adults with disabilities. The committee closed the item after hearing no public comment.
