The Rules Committee on Sept. 14 recommended that Cici Bonini and Dr. Emma Steinberg be appointed to the Food Security Task Force and sent the nominations to the full Board with positive recommendation.
Cici Bonini described two decades of anti-hunger work in San Francisco, leadership of UCSF’s 'Vouchers for Veggies' program within the Center for Vulnerable Populations and experience coordinating the San Francisco Food Providers Group, which has acted as a mutual-aid and disaster-feeding coordination body during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bonini said the pandemic sharply increased demand and operational strain on traditional feeding organizations and highlighted the need for additional resources and coordinated response.
Dr. Emma Steinberg, a pediatric hospitalist, explained how food insecurity intersects with health and mental-health needs and emphasized partnering with health-care systems to coordinate services. Committee members thanked both nominees for their expertise; the clerk reported no public callers on the item. Chair Supervisor Hilary Ronan moved to forward the nominations; the committee voted unanimously to recommend Bonini and Steinberg to the full Board.
The appointments add public-health and operational feeding experience to the Task Force at a time of elevated food insecurity in the city.
