Rules Committee approves resolution allowing SF Animal Care and Control to participate in documentary series

The Rules Committee voted Aug. 31 to forward a resolution authorizing San Francisco Animal Care and Control (SFACC) to enter a one-year use and licensing agreement with Big Fish Entertainment LLC to participate in the Live Rescue documentary series.
Virginia Donahue, executive director of SFACC, described the agency as the city's taxpayer-funded open-admission shelter that enforces state and local animal-control and welfare laws and provides housing and medical care for a wide range of animals. Donahue said the series would increase public visibility of SFACC's work, serve an education function about wildlife and animal-control operations, and could aid in recruitment for hard-to-fill positions at the agency. She noted health and safety protocols would be coordinated with the film commission in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and introduced officers involved in recent rescues as participants in the project.
Committee members asked a few operational questions (including a temporary presentation display problem) and expressed support for the agency's work. Supervisor Ronan moved to send the resolution forward with a positive recommendation; roll-call votes by Supervisors Stephanie, Marr and Ronan were recorded as 'Aye' and the motion passed without objection.
