Family Violence Council previews comprehensive report; full presentation scheduled for December

The committee received an executive-summary preview of the Family Violence Council’s comprehensive report on family violence in San Francisco. Manoush Kandel (Department on the Status of Women) and the council's tri-chairs — Katie Albright, Beverly Upton and Shauna Reeves — outlined key trends and said they will return with a full presentation in December.
Presenters used a funnel illustration to show that community crisis lines and hotlines receive far more calls than the number of cases that progress through official channels to conviction. The tri-chairs emphasized prevention, the importance of community-based culturally sensitive services, and the need to strengthen response systems across child abuse, domestic violence and elder-abuse services. Shauna Reeves noted an absence of a community hotline for elder abuse statewide and highlighted a recent increase in investigations of elder financial abuse after additional inspectors were assigned.
The committee agreed to continue the item to December so the report can receive a dedicated, full hearing and public comment period.
