Gas-station restroom ordinance continued after safety concerns from owners and workers
Summary

Business groups, convenience store owners and chains including the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and Chevron representatives told the committee they support access to clean restrooms in principle but raised practical concerns: many stations are small, single-attendant operations at night; opening internal restrooms overnight may create safety risks for employees and customers; managers and staff described past incidents of violence, vandalism and theft in late-night hours and asked for alternatives and consultation before a mandate.
The committee heard images and testimony from retailers and agreed to continue the item to allow further discussion with stakeholders; the sponsor moved the item to the call of the chair so staff and supervisors could craft an approach that balances public needs for restroom access with employee safety and enforcement practicality.
