The Budget and Finance Committee advanced a resolution authorizing the Department of Public Works to apply for, accept and expend $417,393 in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) transportation-enhancement funds for the Corbin Place stair replacement project in the Upper Market area.
Anne Jenkins of the Department of Public Works said the stairway runs between Corbett Avenue and Seventeenth Street, is approximately 57 feet long, and requires concrete replacement, steel reinforcement repairs, leveling of uneven landings, an ADA-compliant handrail and anti-slip nosing. Jenkins said the city identified Corbin Place for ARRA funding because the project is designed and ready to go and matches the funding amount made available from other agencies’ savings.
Committee members asked whether other stairways were in need and Jenkins said the department has a list and additional funding sources (including $2 million in COPs approved earlier) that will address more stairways; with no public comment the committee advanced the item without objection.
