Budget panel backs Port’s Rincon Park maintenance amendment, lowering annual cost to about $198,000

The Budget and Finance Subcommittee voted to forward to the full Board a resolution authorizing the Port Executive Director to execute a third amendment to the maintenance and management agreement between the City and County of San Francisco and the Redevelopment Agency for Rincon Park.
Elaine Forbes of the Port of San Francisco explained the amendment extends the agreement (originally executed in 2003) and said the port owns the park land and is paid to maintain the park on behalf of the redevelopment agency. Forbes said the existing annual cost is approximately $219,000 and the proposed amendment reduces the projected annual cost to about $198,000 due to anticipated efficiencies.
Budget analyst Mr. Rose recommended the resolution be amended for retroactive approval and that the correct extension period begin July 1, 2010 (rather than June 30, 2010) and recommended approval as amended. The committee accepted the analyst recommendation and moved the item forward with recommendation 'without objection.'
A single member of the public, Walter Paulson, offered brief supportive remarks about the park during public comment.
