Committee backs renewal of Mission Miracle Mile Business Improvement District

The Budget and Finance Committee recommended that the Board of Supervisors declare its intention to renew the property-based Mission Miracle Mile Business Improvement District (BID), covering the 2500 block of Mission Street, and levy a multiyear assessment on identified parcels.
Supervisor David Campos, sponsor of the resolution, said the BID—established in 2005—supports cleaning, beautification, surveillance and green projects in the commercial block between 20 First and 20 Second Street. Campos told the committee the proposed renewal would authorize a five-year special assessment; he said the 2011 budget is set at about $85,000.
Phil Lesser, manager of the Mission Miracle Mile BID, described twice-daily debris removal, installation of floral baskets and surveillance cameras that have reduced unlawful street vending on the block. Campos asked for support and noted representatives from the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development were present to answer questions. Public comment was opened with no speakers; Supervisor Ellsberg moved approval and the committee advanced the item without objection.
