Committee trims North Beach plaque project and forwards amended resolution
Summary

Supervisor Aaron Peskin introduced a resolution, sponsored by Peskin, authorizing placement of commemorative street plaques in the Top of Broadway/North Beach Community Benefit District. He said the project would mark a variety of neighborhood landmarks — from the Italian American Bank to historic music venues and notable artists — but that property-owner approvals required for certain locations reduced the total from 13 plaques to 10.
Dominic Lamondre, executive director of the Community Benefit District, told the committee the CBD would fund the plaques and that the reduced slate of 10 still captures the corridor’s cultural history. Supervisor Peskin moved the amendment and the committee took the motion without objection, forwarding the amended resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
The committee’s action approves the concept and sends the amended resolution to the Board; final installation will require property-owner approvals at specific sites and coordination with city staff.
