The Rules Committee held a hearing on Feb. 24 to fill seats on the South of Market (SoMa) Community Stabilization Fund Community Advisory Committee and appointed five members while continuing remaining appointments to the next meeting.
Supervisor Matt Haney summarized the fund’s history and role in directing development mitigation and neighborhood stabilization investments. Multiple applicants described relevant experience: small-business operations, cultural district leadership, community arts and anti-displacement work. Raquel Redandias, director of SoMa Filipinas, urged protecting cultural districts and using Central SoMa development fees to mitigate displacement; other applicants highlighted anti-displacement priorities and neighborhood-serving investments.
Supervisor Haney moved to appoint John Eberling (senior resident seat), Misha Olivas (youth development seat), Raquel Redandias (arts/cultural seat), Alan Manalo (employment development seat) and Adam Mesnick (small business seat). The motion passed without objection. Haney said applications for the other seats would remain active and the committee will finalize the remaining appointments at the March meeting.
Outcome: Five applicants were appointed immediately; the committee deferred finalizing other seats to a follow-up meeting in March to allow staff to assign seat numbers and confirm qualifications.
