Committee approves Golden Veggie Market liquor license with conditions

The Neighborhood Services and Safety Committee approved a transfer of a Type 20 off-sale beer-and-wine license to Golden Veggie Market, a produce market at 1475 Polk Street, after the San Francisco Police Department recommended approval with conditions. The committee approved the application by unanimous consent.

SFPD Lieutenant Dave Falzon told the committee the unit has operated in the neighborhood for several years and that police records show minimal calls for service to the location and none linked to alcohol. Falzon read recommended conditions limiting alcohol sales to 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily; limiting alcohol display to no more than 5 percent of public retail space (excluding storage); prohibiting malt beverages above 5.7 percent alcohol by volume except for specified craft products; banning containers larger than 32 ounces; requiring sales in manufactured multi-unit quantities (e.g., four-packs); and limiting wine content and bottle sizes.

David Vallebos, representing applicant King Chan, described the business as primarily a produce market with two small coolers planned for local wines and beers and said the applicant intends to operate roughly 8 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Vallebos stated the applicant accepts the recommended conditions.

Supervisor Julie Christensen, whose district includes the site, said she and staff visited and supported the application as serving the public convenience. After no members of the public requested to speak, Chair Eric Marr asked if the item could proceed without objection and the committee approved it by unanimous consent.

The committee did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript; the approval was announced and entered by unanimous consent. No formal appeals or conditions beyond those read aloud were recorded at today’s hearing.
