Committee backs easement to PG&E for land tied to central shops relocation

The Land Use & Transportation Committee voted on March 13 to forward to the full Board a resolution approving an easement agreement with Pacific Gas & Electric for land along the northern border of 1975 Galvez Street for the nominal consideration of $1, to accommodate relocation tied to the city's central shops project.
Real estate staff explained the easement (approximately 10–15 feet wide and about 3,600 square feet) is required because the area had been vacated and sold in 1969 and prior board direction indicated a reservation for the utility’s predecessor even though a formal easement had not been recorded. Staff said PG&E has agreed to the terms and the transaction is consistent with the general plan and prior board actions.
Supervisor Peskin asked for a clear plat map (the attachment had a blank area) and raised questions about appraisals and purchase prices for related leasehold interests; staff acknowledged the map was missing from the board file and said additional appraisal information would be discussed in a separate subsequent item.
Supervisor Tang moved and Supervisor Peskin seconded the motion to send the easement to the Board with a positive recommendation; the motion was taken without objection.
Next steps: the committee forwarded the easement resolution to the Board for final action; staff said the full file will include the easement map and appraisal materials referenced during questions.
