Committee amends short title and forwards sidewalk-width change for Presidio Middle School project

An ordinance to change official sidewalk width along a portion of the easterly side of 30th Avenue between Clement Street and Gary Boulevard moved forward from the committee after a brief presentation from Public Works. Javier Rivera explained the measure is part of the Presidio Middle School modernization project and would permit San Francisco Unified School District to install ADA-compliant ramps and a pickup/drop-off zone. The maximum reduction discussed is five feet, leaving a minimum of ten feet of sidewalk.
Supervisor Aaron Peskin suggested the short title and public notice be explicit about the reduction — for example, specifying the change from 15 to 10 feet — so members of the public better understand the proposal and are more likely to participate in public comment. Public Works agreed that future short titles could be clarified, and Peskin moved to amend the short title to read 'sidewalk width reduction' for the item. No public speakers appeared on the item; the motion to amend and to forward the matter to the full Board passed without objection.
The committee’s action sends the ordinance to the Board with a committee recommendation and a clarified short title to improve public notice and transparency about the change.
