Committee continues West Portal moratorium after business and resident pushback

Multiple speakers from West Portal — including merchants, neighbors and a planning consultant — urged a continuance or exemption. Ellen Ching and other small‑business owners said they had worked with the Planning Department for more than a year, filed conditional use permits as instructed, and that an immediate moratorium would block applications already in process. The West Portal Merchants Association said it supported continuation and planned stakeholder meetings with the supervisor’s office and Planning.
After public comment the committee moved to continue Item 2 to the call of the chair so Supervisor Yee could consult with neighbors and stakeholders; the motion passed unanimously without objection.
