Rules Committee sends early‑education nominee Nurjahan Kalik forward with positive recommendation

The Rules Committee on June 3 forwarded the mayor’s appointment of Nurjahan Kalik to the Child Care Planning and Advisory Council (CPAC) with a positive recommendation to the full Board of Supervisors.
Kalik, who said she is executive director of early childhood schools and programs for San Francisco Unified School District and a District 10 resident, summarized roughly 30 years of experience working on early‑childhood programs, including co‑located early‑ed classrooms and special‑education inclusion. “I’m very aware of educational issues in San Francisco Unified as well as being a community member,” she told the committee.
Supervisor Alta and other supervisors praised Kalik’s district ties and long record on early‑education issues; the committee opened public comment but received none on the nomination. The committee moved the item forward with a positive recommendation without objection.
The appointment will be reported out to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
