Rules Committee files withdrawal of initiative on discriminatory federal laws from November ballot

The Rules Committee filed a letter July 9 withdrawing an initiative ordinance from the November 5, 2018 ballot that had proposed amending the Administrative Code with procedures to identify discriminatory federal laws or policies.
Chair Supervisor Asha Safai said Supervisor Ronan had submitted a notice to the Department of Elections on July 11, 2018 withdrawing her signature from the file, and the committee accepted public comment on the item. An unidentified member of the public urged the committee to amend the item to refer to "discriminatory laws or policies" generally rather than limiting it to federal laws or policies.
Following that exchange, Chair Safai moved to file the letter withdrawing the item from the November 5 ballot; the committee did so without objection. The action removes the proposed initiative from the ballot and ends the committee’s consideration of the measure at this time.
