Rules Committee forwards Anne Lazarus reappointment to Board of Supervisors

The Rules Committee voted July 9 to forward the mayor’s reappointment of Anne Lazarus to the Board of Appeals to the full Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation.

Anne Lazarus, the applicant, introduced the commission’s new executive director, Julie Rosenberg, and described a recent transition at the commission. Lazarus said she has served on the Board of Appeals for six years and emphasized her diligence and experience in resolving appeals brought by neighbors and respondents. "I've had the honor and privilege of serving on this board now for 6 years," she said, adding that listening to appellants and respondents helps produce equitable decisions that reflect governing codes and ordinances.

Supervisor Catherine Stephanie said she had a good conversation with Lazarus in her office, praised Lazarus’s work on process and speed of review, and moved to forward the reappointment with a positive recommendation, amending language that would have rejected the mayoral appointment. The committee opened public comment and received none. The motion was approved and the matter will be referred to the Board of Supervisors with recommendation.

If the board approves the recommendation, Lazarus’s term would run through July 1, 2022, as noted in the committee record.
