Rules Committee forwards Ayesha Romero to full Board for Parks and Open Space seat

The Rules Committee unanimously forwarded Ayesha Romero’s nomination to the full Board of Supervisors for a Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee seat (term ending Feb. 1, 2020). Supervisor Hillary Ronan opened the Rules Committee meeting April 8 and the clerk read Item 1, a hearing to appoint one member to the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee for a term ending Feb. 1, 2020. Ayesha Romero introduced herself and said she has lived in Bayview–Hunters Point for more than 25 years and would bring community activism and policy experience to the committee. Romero said, “As you know, my name is Ayesha Romero, and I'm an Afro-Latina woman who resides at District 10.”
Romero described being a single mother of three, nearing completion of a master’s in business, and having a background in mental-health work and community organizing. She told the committee her priority would be improving parks and safety in Bayview–Hunters Point so residents do not have to travel outside their neighborhood for safe recreation.
Supervisor Shamone Walton nominated Romero and praised her local experience and commitment to equity, saying Romero “is going to be a fighter for equity.” Chair Ronan took the nomination as a motion and, without objection, announced the motion passed and Romero’s nomination will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation.
The committee did not hold a roll-call vote on the record; the chair characterized the action as passed without objection. The matter will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda for April 16, 2019.
