She said the city must meet Vision Zero goals and work to reduce traffic fatalities on the high‑injury network by 2024. "It turns out we've really surfaced two factors primarily when it comes to on‑time service: operator availability and traffic congestion," Eakin said, adding staff had reported an operator shortage of about 300 as of January.
Advocacy groups and transit stakeholders including the SF Bicycle Coalition, Walk San Francisco, San Francisco Transit Riders and local residents spoke in support, noting Eakin's outreach to advocates, experience with congestion‑pricing policy at NRDC and leadership on short‑term plans for high‑injury corridors. A motion to recommend her reappointment was moved and passed without objection; the committee asked that the nomination be sent to the full Board as a committee report.
