Committee approves recommendation to full Board for energy-efficiency and Energy Star grants

The Department of the Environment presented two grant items the committee recommended to the full Board. Director Osborn said the first is a retroactive authorization to accept and expend $11,540,000 from the California Public Utilities Commission through Pacific Gas & Electric Company for a three-year program to reduce energy use and peak demand across the city. The second is an $80,000 grant from U.S. EPA Region 9 to develop a protocol for applying Energy Star to multifamily high-rise and mixed-use residential buildings, and to fund one grant-funded position in the department.
Director Osborn said the projects align with prior presentations to the Board and that the request to expend funds simply formalizes the earlier contract execution in December. The committee voted to forward items 2 and 7 to the full Board with recommendation.
